Our Study Trip 2011 saw a group of 27 participants
flying Down Under to Australia in May 2011.
Participants comprising personnel from different backgrounds
like marketing, operations and administration, visited a
dozen of Australia's prominent centres and learned much from their
management styles involving building layouts and décor, marketing
strategies, operations and more.
President HC Chan and PPK representatives met with senior
personnel from the Sydney-based Shopping Centre Council of
Australia (SCCA) who hosted a dinner meeting. It was a
fruitful discourse exchanging industry updates and sharing news on
recent development pertaining to shopping centre management and
commercial developments covering both countries.
Thanks to SCCA and the individual malls' management, our visits
were graciously hosted by the individual malls, both in Sydney and
Melbourne and these included Queen Victoria Building, The Strand,
Westfield Sydney and Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney.
Yet more malls were visited in Melbourne - Chadstone The Fashion
Centre, Westfield Doncaster, DFO Essendon, Melbourne Central, Knox
Shopping Centre and Melbourne GPO. Other shopping precincts visited
by our energetic participants included Queen Victoria Market, Royal
Arcade, Block Arcade and Bourke Street Mall and the retail icons of
Myers and David Jones.
The Australia shopping scene remains bustling and vibrant with
many aspects to be learnt from specialized customer services,
impressive architectural designs, interior décor and lighting. All
agreed that the programme was productive and useful, being an
excellent time for info-sharing and networking and with even some
time out for a quick tour in both cities and sampling local
delights.
Overall, participants got the opportunity to visit a diverse
range of malls and the week-long trip was as one participant
succinctly put it, "it's a fruitful and fun study trip"!
Stay tuned for our Study Trips next year.
