Held since 2016, PPKM Awards have evolved into a vibrant platform for recognition, benchmarking, and idea-sharing. Each submission showcases bold campaigns, Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) leadership, and strategic thinking that shape malls as lifestyle anchors for Malaysians.
With a record-breaking 100 entries—a 23% rise from last year—this year’s response reflects the industry’s passion for pushing boundaries and redefining the mall experience in Malaysia.

Festival Kraf Johor (FKJ) 2024 was held from December 19 to 30 at Padang Akasia, Angsana Johor Bahru Mall. Organised by Kraftangan Malaysia, the festival showcased Malaysia’s rich craft heritage through product sales, exhibitions, live demonstrations, and interactive craft sessions. A key highlight is the Malaysian Craft Product Showcase featuring 24 batik designs inspired by regional floral motifs. The event also included a themed Landscape and Garden Architecture Exhibition and engagements with craft entrepreneurs. Held alongside Festival Kota Selatan (FKS) 2024, FKJ 2024 celebrates Johor’s cultural identity through traditional performances, local cuisine, and the Johor National Art House Exhibition.

10th Anniversary Grand Celebration of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP)
Sunway Big Box’s five-day New Year’s Eve campaign from 27 to 31 December 2024 celebrated SCIP’s 10th Anniversary with Johor’s first-ever Hoholand with over 40 online KOL brands being brought offline. Drawing over 120,000 visitors, the campaign boosted footfall by 107% and tenant sales by 30%. The campaign highlights allowed visitors to interact with their favourite KOLs and purchase exclusive items offline, offering exclusive concert countdown, dining experience with stage views, and stunning midnight fireworks as the finale. Merging online influence with on- ground excitement, the campaign surpassed objectives, repositioning Sunway Big Box as SCIP’s lifestyle epicentre and the southern region’s celebration destination.

Moonlit Joys – Malaysia Book of Records: Most Hand- Painted Lanterns by Children
Cheras LeisureMall’s “Moonlit Joys” Mid-Autumn campaign, held from 26 August to 30 September 2024, showcased the celebration of cultural heritage and highlighted community creativity. In collaboration with 14 nearby primary schools, 1,542 students’ hand-painted lanterns earned a Malaysia Book of Records title for the Most Hand-Painted Lanterns by Children. These lanterns transformed key mall areas into a vibrant showcase of youthful imagination and festive charm, reinforcing the mall’s role as a cherished neighbourhood hub nearing its 30-year milestone. Blending tradition, art, and youth participation, the campaign fostered deeper emotional connections while driving foot traffic, engagement, and brand affinity.

Heights of Happiness at Pavilion Damansara Heights
With the challenge of a half-opened mall, Pavilion Damansara Heights has emerged as a vibrant hub of culture and commerce. In the Year of the Snake, its Heights of Happiness campaign reimagined Chinese New Year traditions through art and storytelling, centered on the character “喜” (Happiness) and snake-inspired calligraphy. The highlight was Malaysia’s largest handcrafted Chinese Culture Diorama in a mall—93 feet long—created with the World Culture Organisation and The Federation of Calligraphy Society Malaysia. The campaign drove over RM6 million in sales and a 20% increase in footfall, cementing the mall’s status as a rising festive and retail destination.

Moonlit Blossom – A Lunar Reunion Lantern Parade 2024
The PPK award-winning Moonlit Blossom Lantern Parade returned for its eighth edition at Sungei Wang Plaza, lighting up Bukit Bintang with Malaysia’s largest lantern parade. Held over the Malaysia Day weekend, the event drew thousands of local and international visitors. Highlights included 33 lion and dragon dance troupes, a thunderous 40-drum performance, fireworks, and vibrant cultural showcases. The celebration was further elevated by top Chinese-language artistes from Malaysia’s leading Chinese TV channel, 8TV, and personalities from Eight FM, one of Malaysia’s top Chinese-language radio stations — creating a powerful night of culture, entertainment, and unity in the city.

Moonlight Odyssey Mid-Autumn 2024 – A Communal Feast & Gathering
While the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration is highly popular among Malaysia’s Chinese community, competition among malls to attract the community is intense. Each mall will attempt to outdo each other in decorations, variety of mooncakes and others. The highlight of the festival, the lantern parade is almost done by every mall resulting in no differentiation or uniqueness. Sunway Velocity decided to revisit the true spirit of the festival and hosted a community feast for 300 people amidst Tang Dynasty setup when the festival was first publicly celebrated. This garnered over 1.6 million reach on social media and helped boost sales by 12%.

Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2024
In an unprecedented collaboration, Suria KLCC co-organised and hosted Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2024; the first-ever outdoor fashion showcase beneath the PETRONAS Twin Towers. This bold move transformed Esplanade KLCC into a high-fashion epicentre, anchoring the Fashion & Beauty Campaign which rewarded shoppers with e-Vouchers and exclusive KLFW access. Results were exceptional: tenant sales exceeded target by 130.2%, traffic surged 142.9%, PR value reached RM248.37 million, and social reach topped 2.39 million. With a staggering ROI of 34,560%, the campaign solidified Suria KLCC as the definitive experiential destination, elevating the retail landscape and setting a new industry benchmark.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur mesmerised shoppers with its dazzling ‘Christmas Enchantment’ celebration from 15 November 2024 to 1 January 2025, transforming the mall into a golden festive wonderland complete with Southeast Asia’s tallest Dior Christmas tree, magical snowfall experiences, and immersive 3D AR shows. Strategic partnerships with Dior, Venchi, Blanc 1664 and Alipay+ elevated the celebration’s luxury appeal, experiential impact and digital innovation, resulting in 22% increase in mall footfall, an ROI of 10,057%, 25% rise in average spend and achieving 33% increase in PR value compared to Christmas 2023.

Sparkle & Splendour transformed The Exchange TRX into Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic Christmas destination, anchored by Malaysia’s first Tiffany & Co. Christmas tree featuring the iconic Bird on a Rock. Highlights included a Louis Vuitton Holiday Pop-Up, LEGO’s Gift the Superpower of Play, a WICKED Christmas experience, and a 60-ft UOB Christmas tree at Raintree Plaza. The campaign blended luxury, creativity, and family engagement, supported by a multi-tiered UOB redemption programme that drove spending and loyalty. Drawing 4.5 million visitors, generating RM40.3 million in Public Relations value, and achieving double-digit sales growth, it redefined festive retail experiences in Malaysia.

Launch of DV Zerowaste Composting, EV Charging Hub & GreenRE Platinum Award Ceremony
Design Village Outlet Mall became Malaysia’s first fully certified GreenRE Platinum outlet mall in March 2025. The initiative included the launch of a 1.97MWp solar Photovoltaic (PV) system generating 2,868 MWh annually, a 14-bay Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Hub including a 120kW DC fast charger, and a food waste composting facility capable of diverting 109 metric tons of waste yearly. Implemented through zero-capex models and strategic partnerships, these efforts support Environmental, Social, Governance compliance and long-term carbon reduction. Ongoing trials for rainwater harvesting and a hydroponic wellness initiative further reinforce the mall’s evolving sustainability roadmap toward zero landfill waste and greener infrastructure.

Quayside Mall by Gamuda Land is Malaysia’s first neighbourhood mall to achieve GreenRE Energy (Silver) certification, exemplifying the Group’s commitment to the Gamuda Green Plan (GGP). As a model for low-carbon, community-centric retail, the mall integrates key sustainability features including rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV), rainwater harvesting, food waste composting, and connectivity to a township-wide recycling network. Governed by an Energy Management Committee (EMC), it actively monitors and optimises energy performance. Aligned with GGP’s carbon reduction targets of 30% by 2025 and 45% by 2030, Quayside Mall sets a benchmark in green retail infrastructure, supporting long-term environmental resilience and sustainable urban living.

K Space @ Sunway Citrine: Intercultural Sustainability and Social
Launched in February 2025, K Space @ Sunway Citrine Hub is Malaysia’s first mall-based intercultural hub designed to foster inclusivity and sustainable urban communities. Endorsed by the Korean Ambassador, it offers embassy services, cultural exchange workshops, and Korean language classes for locals. Within its first five months, K Space hosted over two semesters of language classes, drew 1,500+ participants to over 50 cultural workshops and strengthened ties between Korean expatriates and Malaysians. Aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 on Sustainable Cities and SDG 4 (Quality Education), K Space redefines mall spaces as platforms for social sustainability, learning, and multicultural empathy.

From Waste to Wonder is Sunway Carnival Mall’s ongoing sustainability campaign, highlighted during World Environment Day to encourage environmental responsibility and community participation. Rooted in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 and SDG 15, the initiative features compost giveaways, upcycled festive decorations, and a pedal-powered energy zone that blends education with engagement. These efforts reflect the mall’s broader ESG commitment, from solar panels and energy- efficient systems to rainwater harvesting and waste segregation. With 40% reduction in landfill waste to date, the campaign inspires shoppers to see the beauty in renewal and rethink everyday habits through shared responsibility and mindful action.
